Next week is Lunar New Year, but the residents of Longsheng Village in Miaoli County, who fear their farmland is being contaminated by waste, may not be able to go home for the reunion dinner. Legislator Chen Jiaohua and Miaoli County Councilor Song Guoding entered the Kunyu landfill site for an inspection early this morning (2/6). Chen pointed directly to multiple problems at Kunyu, including falsification, violations, pollution and official cover-up, and said she will submit a complaint about administrative negligence to the Control Yuan after the New Year. The lawmakers publicly called on Miaoli County Magistrate Xu Yaochang to respond to the villagers' demands and revoke the landfill permit so that the villagers can have a peaceful New Year.
