Using Everyday Household Items to Control the Three Major Flower Pests

As environmental awareness grows, people increasingly want to find an efficient, non-toxic and eco-friendly alternative to pesticides. The author has worked in landscaping for 12 years and, based on accumulated experience, hereby introduces several methods for controlling flower pests with everyday household items. Practice by staff in China has proven that the listed methods are all effective against pests, cause no pollution to the environment and have no effect on the normal growth of plants.

1 Control of aphids

Washing powder can kill aphids, whiteflies and the like. To use it, dilute 5 g of washing powder with 80 g of warm water, stir evenly, then spray it on the pests on the affected parts of the plant, once every 3 to 5 days, for 3 consecutive times.

Take 50 g of fresh chili peppers, add 50 to 100 g of water, boil in a pot for half an hour, then filter, and spray the filtrate on the pests on the affected parts of the plant, once every 6 to 7 days, for 3 consecutive times.

Mix washing powder, urea and water in a ratio of 1:100:100, stir evenly, then spray it on the pests on the affected parts of the plant, once every 7 to 8 days, for 3 consecutive times.

Take 1 kg of Welsh onion, add 0.5 kg of water, mash and extract the juice, mix the juice with 6 kg of water, stir the two evenly, then spray the affected plant, once every 3 to 5 days, for 3 consecutive times.

2 Control of scale insects

The infusion of onion or garlic can control scale insects. To use it, take 2 garlic bulbs, mash them, add 2 kg of water and soak for half a day, then take the clear liquid and spray the affected parts, once every 3 to 4 days, and all the pests can be killed in 3 consecutive days. It also has a bactericidal effect and inhibits the reproduction and spread of pathogens.

Repeatedly wipe the affected plant gently with 75% alcohol, which can kill both adults and larvae at the same time. This method is only suitable when the pest index is low or there are few potted seedlings, and is not suitable for large-scale planting or when the pest index is high.

Mix washing powder, diesel oil and water in a ratio of 0.3:5:3 into a milk-like stock solution, then add 1 times the water to make a 30% oil-containing dilution and spray it; after 7 days, most of the pests can be seen shriveled, turning brown and dead.

Mix 1 part of baijiu with 2 parts of water, and water the surface layer of the pot soil thoroughly, once every half a month, and 4 consecutive waterings can kill most of the pests.

Soak about 30 cigarette butts in 500 g of water for a day and a night, filter, add a little soap solution and it is ready to spray; it is effective against the nymphs of scale insects.

3 Control of red spider mites

Dilute essential balm 600 to 800 times, then spray the affected plant, once every 3 to 5 days, for 3 consecutive times, which can kill the nymphs of red spider mites; take a solution of 1 kg of fresh cow urine added to 25 kg of water, then spray the affected plant, which kills the pests quickly and thoroughly; take 10 g of washing powder, 13 ml of 20% caustic soda and 6.5 kg of water to make a mixed solution, then spray the affected plant, and after 2 consecutive sprays all the pests die; place a lit mosquito coil in the plant pot, tie the plant together with the pot tightly in a plastic bag, and open it after fumigating for 1 hour, and all the pests will be dead.
