Control Strategies for Common Flower Pests and Diseases

As temperatures rise again, humidity in the air is also gradually increasing. Based on the growing conditions of flowers, preventing and controlling common pests and diseases is an urgent task. To do a good job of pest and disease control, we need to pay attention to the following points.

Aphids Hibiscus, ornamental peach, Chinese hibiscus, Chinese rose, honeysuckle and others are all susceptible to aphid damage. As temperatures rise, aphids also multiply increasingly. Control methods: 1. Spray with 40% omethoate or 50% phosmet diluted 1200-1500 times with water. 2. For a small number of potted flowers, you can also spray with neutral laundry detergent solution diluted 70-100 times.

Red spider mites They begin causing damage from early April to jasmine, Chinese hibiscus, asparagus fern, Chinese rose, dahlia and others. Control methods: 1. Spray with 1000 times diluted rapid-kill solution. 2. For a small number of potted flowers, frequently rinse the front and back of leaves with tap water, or spray or dip with boiled and cooled paste water diluted 100-150 times, then rinse once more with clean water after a day or two, which can achieve noticeable results.

Scale insects (flower lice) Scale insects on white magnolia, Chinese rose, boxwood and pittosporum mostly begin hatching from mid-April to mid-to-late May. Control methods: 1. Before hatching, gently brush off the insect bodies by hand. 2. During the larval hatching period, spray with 40% omethoate diluted 1000-1500 times.

Damping-off disease When the temperature reaches 20°C, newly sown flowers, tree seedlings and some flowers prone to root rot are highly susceptible to damping-off disease when soil moisture is high. Control methods: 1. Before sowing, mix 1.5-4 kg of 70% quintozene evenly into the soil per seedling bed. 2. Control watering during the seedling stage, do not let the soil become too wet. 3. At the early stage of disease onset, water with 1% ferrous sulfate or 200-400 times diluted 50% amobam solution, applying 2-4 kg of solution per sq m.

Rust disease Rose rust disease attacks when rose buds are about to open. Control methods: 1. When roses sprout, promptly remove and burn the yellow diseased buds that sprout first, eliminating the source of infection. 2. During the initial infection period, spray with 15% triadimefon diluted 700-1000 times.

Powdery mildew Chinese rose powdery mildew and garden balsam powdery mildew mostly occur from May to June, and in summer easily cause symptoms such as yellow leaves, withered leaves and curved tender shoots. Control methods: 1. Pay attention to ventilation and light transmission for flowers. 2. Apply less nitrogen fertilizer and more phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. 3. Spraying once with 15% triadimefon diluted 700-1000 times at the initial infection stage is sufficient.
