Wind power EIA committee member doubles as chair of the wind energy association; fishermen who signed up were dissuaded by industry operators
This Friday (1/8), the development case for Wanda Energy Company's Yunlin Taizigang site is about to be convened, and at that time a drama may play out in which the chair of the wind energy association (Jian Liangui) reviews the development case of the association's standing director (Wanda Energy Company chairperson Wang Yunyi).
Previously, Wanda Energy Company had just engaged in a confrontation at sea with fishermen along the Yunlin coast, and later there was also the outrageous incident in which personnel from a Wanda contractor entered the county government with knives to negotiate with fishermen. Yesterday (1/6), it was again reported that after fishermen signed up to attend Friday's EIA meeting, the company somehow immediately knew and called the fishermen to advise them: "Do not go north to participate in the EIA meeting." This absurd conduct has already caused the fishermen to feel furious.
Legislator Chen Jiaohua believes: "EIA committee members who serve as directors or supervisors of industry associations should recuse themselves." Lawyer Wen Lubin, who previously served as an EIA committee member, believes: "The powers and responsibilities of EIA committee members concern major public interests, and the highest ethical standards should be adopted, information should be proactively disclosed, and where there is controversy they should automatically recuse themselves, so as not to harm the transcendent impartiality of the EIA system."
