Small-bulb onions are tender, juicy and sweet, yet they make farmers weep! Chaotic climate leaves Changhua onions small and prices falling - please enjoy them while fresh

Last year (2020), the cold weather came too late, and the onions that could not grow big made farmers weep! After the onset of winter, domestic onions matured one after another, and harvesting starts in central Taiwan every year, but recently word came that onion prices at production areas in Changhua were poor. Both the Changhua Shengang Farmers' Association and the Dacheng Farmers' Association said that in the early growth stage last year it was too hot and there was no rain, so the onions matured and had to be harvested before they formed large bulbs. The small and medium bulbs dragged down overall onion prices, and overall output was not as good as last year, greatly reducing farmers' income.

The small onions that did not have time to grow into large bulbs are tender and sweet, but because of their high water content and shorter cold-storage life, wholesalers are reluctant to buy them, and prices fell from the opening of the market. The farmers' associations call on people to note that small onions may be small but are just as delicious and even better suited for small households, so please enjoy them while fresh.
