The Export Processing Zone Administration (EPZA) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs held its 109th year-end press conference on the 29th. At the conference, Director-General Huang Wengu revealed that the bill to rename the processing zone had recently passed review by the Economics Committee of the Legislative Yuan, and once the bill passes its third reading, the park's statutory name will be changed to "Science and Technology Industrial Park." In line with the launch of the new name, the park will implement many improvements in the future, including promoting industry-academia collaboration, strengthening investment management, and enhancing the efficiency of industrial space use. It will also provide innovative guidance measures and smart park services, enabling the park to keep pace with the times and turn this long-established park over a brand-new page.
The EPZA of the Ministry of Economic Affairs stated that the renaming to "Science and Technology Industrial Park" is mainly to highlight the park's technological energy. According to surveys, our country's important technology products, such as semiconductors, displays, optics, and electronic components, were all introduced through the processing zone. At present, the output value of manufacturers in these industries within the zone accounts for more than 80%, with annual turnover exceeding 300 billion yuan. In the future, the "Science and Technology Industrial Park" will devote full effort to nurturing more technology industries, becoming an important cornerstone for our country's implementation of policies such as the "Advanced Semiconductor Process Center" and "High-End Manufacturing Center."
Looking ahead to the new year, Director-General Huang Wengu pointed out that next year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the export processing zone. To celebrate the park reaching this important milestone, in addition to promoting the park's renaming, we will also adopt three advancement strategies: "keeping pace with the times," "forward-looking planning," and "smart refinement," continuing to lead the park toward further upgraded development. In the future, we hope that the Science and Technology Industrial Park, building on the glorious foundation of the export processing zone, will strive toward excellence and become our country's new-generation benchmark demonstration park.
