Entegris to invest NT$6 billion in Kaohsiung; Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai promises to help accelerate the investment landing
World-class semiconductor materials and equipment supplier Entegris, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTG) recently visited Kaohsiung City to call on Mayor Chen Chi-mai, saying it will accelerate its investment process in Kaohsiung, and is expected to invest US$200 million (about NT$6 billion) in Kaohsiung in 2021 to build its largest manufacturing center in Taiwan, formally joining the "Semiconductor Kaohsiung Team." Mayor Chen Chi-mai also expressed a warm welcome, and instructed Deputy Mayor Lo Ta-sheng and Economic Development Bureau Director Liao Tai-hsiang to provide full assistance, cooperating with Entegris's needs to accelerate the investment landing.
At the meeting, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai first expressed a warm welcome to Entegris for investing in Kaohsiung, and stressed that in the face of global supply chain restructuring and rapid technological change, industrial transformation is Kaohsiung's top priority. Therefore, since taking office, he has made every effort to promote the two major transformation policies of "Asia's High-end Manufacturing Center" and "Semiconductor Advanced Process Center." Within two months of taking office, he completed the long-delayed main land coordination work for the Renwu Industrial Park; and joined hands with the central government to accelerate the development of the Qiaotou Science Park. Many foreign-funded companies like Entegris are rushing into Kaohsiung, and many Taiwanese businesses have also been attracted to return, showing that the outside world feels Kaohsiung's determination and sincerity toward the industrial sector.
Entegris Taiwan President Hsieh Chun-an said that the new plant, expected to break ground in 2021, will cover 6.1 hectares. In the initial phase, it plans to first invest US$200 million to build 2.7 hectares of plant facilities, providing gas delivery systems, advanced materials and other products and technical services for high-end semiconductor processes. Mass production is expected to begin as early as 2023, and within the next 5 years it will bring 200 high-end job opportunities to Kaohsiung.
