What details should be noted when choosing fertilizer for flowers?
Choosing fertilizer for flowers is certainly important, but when choosing fertilizer, the details are even more important for the person choosing it. Everyone knows that flower production cannot be done without fertilizer, and all producers are troubled by one question, which is how to buy fertilizer, not knowing how to choose fertilizer. So today, let us get to know a few tips for choosing fertilizer in flower production.
First, when buying fertilizer, you cannot look only at the price. Every producer hopes to choose economical and effective fertilizer, but deciding a purchase simply based on whether the price is high or low is not rational and will affect the effectiveness of the fertilizer in production. Yang Guangsheng, professor at Taiwan, China University, fertilizer expert and technical consultant of Dahan Landscape Development Co., Ltd., points out that when buying fertilizer, you cannot look only at it without considering the relative value. Only fertilizer that can be effective, enable producers to obtain high-quality products and obtain ideal income, and is economical when the comprehensive cost is calculated, is fertilizer worth choosing.
Take an average fertilizer with a nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ratio of 20:20:20 as an example. For fertilizer of the same specification, the prices provided by suppliers will differ because their actual contents differ. Among them, nitrogen exists in fertilizer in three forms: ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and urea nitrogen. For general flowers, the ratio of ammonium nitrogen to nitrate nitrogen cannot exceed 3:7; potassium may exist in the form of potassium nitrate or potassium sulfate. Potassium sulfate is cheaper than potassium nitrate, but the effect of potassium nitrate is better than that of potassium sulfate. In some fertilizers the purity of potassium nitrate is, and in others it is, but this 0.9% difference will make a big difference in price. In fertilizer, some iron exists in chelated form, while some is ferrous sulfate. Chelated iron costs 60,000 to 70,000 yuan per ton, while ferrous sulfate costs only a few thousand yuan per ton. These differences in raw materials directly lead to differences in the price of the final finished product. When selecting and purchasing, producers must carefully read the instructions on the fertilizer outer packaging, seriously study the composition of the product ingredients, and finally choose according to their own needs and economic strength.
At present, a relatively popular way of using fertilizer internationally is 75% controlled-release fertilizer plus 25% water-soluble fertilizer. Using them in this ratio is economical and effective. In most people's minds, controlled-release fertilizer is expensive and using it will increase costs, but this is not actually the case. Water-soluble fertilizer is wasted more during use, and the labor cost is relatively high. Controlled-release fertilizer is a coated fertilizer and releases according to plant needs, which can reduce fertilizer waste to, has relatively high use efficiency, and can reduce labor, so in the final calculation the cost will instead be lower. In addition, when choosing controlled-release fertilizer, you should also pay attention to some explanations provided by suppliers, such as differences in ingredients between different brands. Some brands of fertilizer have some patented technologies that can promote plants' absorption of nutrients. All this information should provide a basis for selection.
Second, when choosing a fertilizer supplier, pay attention to its after-sales service. Some suppliers only sell products and provide no after-sales service; while some suppliers provide supporting services, and they will provide a full set of fertilization plans according to the types of products the producer is producing. The fertilizer used by plants at each growth stage is different. For example, at the seedling stage, fertilizer with high nitrogen, low phosphorus and low potassium should be selected, while when forcing flowers, fertilizer with low nitrogen, high phosphorus and medium potassium should be used. For some producers, because they have not been engaged in production for a long time, their experience is not rich enough, and they are not familiar enough with the details of fertilizer use, the thoughtful service provided by fertilizer suppliers becomes even more important.
