Hope for Halving Pesticide Use! Microbial Factory Inaugurated at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Serving as a Key Platform for R&D and Mass Production

The microbial factory built by the Taiwan Agricultural Science and Technology Research Institute held its inauguration ceremony today (November 16) at the Pingtung Agricultural Science and Technology Park. The facility will serve as a platform for converting R&D capacity into quantified production, assisting industry with equipment planning and standard process development, and putting various microbial products into production and application.

Microbial formulations can be widely used in animal and plant feed and aquaculture, achieving functions such as overcoming pests and diseases and promoting crop growth. For example, adding animal probiotics to chicken feed not only makes the chickens healthier but also reduces the odor pollution from chicken manure, and this manure can also become fertilizer for broader use.

Microbial formulations are highly anticipated by the agricultural sector and are an important route for the Council of Agriculture in pursuing its goal of halving pesticide use. After the Council of Agriculture led the establishment of the "Agricultural Science and Technology Research Institute" in 2014, the institute has actively promoted microbial formulations, developing biological pesticides and biological fertilizers.
