Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan went to the Suiyuan Tea Space in Longtan District yesterday (the 12th) in the morning to attend the "2020 5th Taoyuan Good Tea Premium Black Tea Evaluation Competition Awards Ceremony" and said that the 5th Taoyuan Good Tea Black Tea Evaluation Competition, organized by the Taoyuan Tea Merchants Association this time, was limited to hand-picked black tea, with a total of 100 entries, divided into 71 entries of small-leaf variety and 29 entries of large-leaf variety, and experts from the Tea Research and Extension Station were hired as judges to evaluate the flavor and mouthfeel of the tea samples, tea liquor, tea color and so on. In the end, farmers Qiu Jianxiang and Liao Junrong won the Grand Prize for small-leaf variety and large-leaf variety respectively, which is worthy of recognition.

Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan pointed out that in recent years the city government has been committed to branding, cultural-creative development and internationalization of Taoyuan's tea, and has established production records, so that through traceability consumers can enjoy the goodness of tea with peace of mind, and Taoyuan's black tea, Lalashan oolong tea, Oriental Beauty tea and others are favored in the market.

Agriculture Bureau Director Guo Chengquan said that in order to increase Taoyuan's tea production and quality, the city government this year (2020) allocated about 4.5 million for tea industry competition activities, 4 million yuan for new planting, renewal and maintenance of tea gardens, and 2 million yuan for subsidies for tea garden irrigation facilities, in order to increase the competitiveness of the tea industry and make it a "tea gold industry"; and this time subsidized the Tea Merchants Association to hold the 2020 5th Taoyuan Good Tea Premium Black Tea Evaluation Competition, in which the Grand Prizes for small-leaf variety and large-leaf variety were won by farmers Qiu Jianxiang and Liao Junrong respectively; the first prizes for small-leaf tea variety and large-leaf tea variety were won by Chen Chaoqing and 6 others, and Lin Baodong and 3 others; in addition, the gold medal awards for small-leaf variety were won by Qiu Qingtian and 14 others, and the gold medal awards for large-leaf variety were won by Huang Jingwu and 6 others.
