Taiwan's Worst Drought in 56 Years: Chiayi City Eases Water Shortage with Free Recycled Water for the Public
Water supplies are tight as Taiwan faces its worst drought in 56 years. To make full use of recycled water, the "Chiayi City Water Resources Recycling Center" will provide about 200 tons of recycled water per day, supplied respectively to the Chiayi City Environmental Protection Bureau and the Public Works Office for road sprinkling to suppress dust and for watering road plantings. In addition, to be friendly to the public, the daily available water volume and related information will be posted on the website for the public to check. The public is welcome to call for inquiries and make greater use of it.
This year's near-zero typhoon activity has pushed water supplies into a severe alert, and - has launched an all-out battle to relieve water shortages and combat the drought. The Ministry of the Interior is coordinating with counties and cities - to provide disinfected recycled water from various water resources centers for the public to take free of charge. The treated recycled water can be used as "secondary domestic water" that does not involve human contact, such as for road cleaning, watering flowers, and washing cars. According to statistics, the "Chiayi City Water Resources Recycling Center" had a total recycled water volume of 3,543 tons in September 109, and can provide about 200 tons of recycled water per day. In addition to providing recycled water to the Environmental Protection Bureau for street cleaning operations, the park's Mirror Moon Waterfall Wall, landscape ecological pond, greening irrigation system, and building toilet flushing system all reuse recycled water, reducing tap water use to achieve the goal of being environmentally friendly. The Chiayi City Water Resources Recycling Center stated that it has also planned usage instructions and related promotional measures for recycled water collection, providing the public with applications according to their needs (the daily available recycled water volume is subject to the day's actual amount). Those who need to collect water are advised to call first to make an appointment and bring their own containers to fill water.
The Chiayi City Public Works Office pointed out that in addition to maintaining the good habit of saving water in daily life, the public can also make good use of recycled water at home, such as installing energy-saving showerheads and taking showers, collecting clean water from washing vegetables or laundry for watering flowers and washing cars, and choosing bathroom fixtures certified with the water-saving label. The public is urged to get through the drought period together!
