First in the Nation! Yunlin Zero Ractopamine Alliance Blockchain Traceability Boosts Livestock Soft Power

To safeguard public health and protect the rights of pig farmers, Yunlin County, following its promotion of the "Zero Ractopamine Alliance," signed a letter of intent for cooperation with the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China on the 21st, leading the nation in introducing blockchain technology to strengthen pork product traceability, establishing a transparent process from feed mills, livestock farms, and cutting and processing plants all the way to the dining table, so that the public can buy with peace of mind and eat with confidence, and enhancing the competitiveness of Yunlin Good Product pork.

The signing ceremony was represented by County Magistrate Chang Li-shan and General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China Chairman Lai Cheng-i; County Government Secretary-General Tseng Yuan-huang, Yunlin County Meat Market General Manager Huang Chia-an, Taiwan Young Pig Farmers Alliance Chairman Chang Yu-cheng, and others attended to witness the ceremony.

County Magistrate Chang Li-shan pointed out that Yunlin County is a major pig-farming county, with approximately 1.56 million head raised, accounting for nearly 30% of the nation, and that to protect the rights of pig farmers and the food safety of 23 million compatriots, Yunlin firmly opposes the import of US pork containing ractopamine. To this end, the county government has combined feed mills and livestock farms at the source end within the county with meat plants and restaurant operators at the back end to form the "Zero Ractopamine Alliance," and currently 92 livestock farms and 27 restaurants and food businesses have joined.

County Magistrate Chang Li-shan stated that the county government is further cooperating with the General Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of China, becoming the first in the nation to serve as a field for applying blockchain to agricultural products, and by leveraging the technology of the Chamber's Blockchain Research Institute, it is building the Yunlin Good Product pork traceability system, using blockchain's tamper-proof and multi-party verification characteristics to ensure that consumers can eat safe, secure, and healthy Yunlin Good Product pork, with the hope that this technology can also be applied to other items in the future, comprehensively enhancing the value of Yunlin's agricultural products.
