"Little tricks" to prevent short-term water shortage in flowers

For gardening enthusiasts who grow flowers at home, there will always be times when they are away from home, and then no one waters the flowers, which is a problem. So how can you keep flowers from suffering water shortage during short-term absences when no one is home? If you run into this situation, you might as well try the three methods below.

Drip irrigation method

In fact, the drip irrigation method is just like getting an IV drip: you need a dropper device to drip water onto the base of the plant's stem, so that the water droplets continuously seep and spread into the soil to be absorbed by the roots. The dripping speed can be adjusted specifically according to the flower species and size. This method is simple and the effect is very good, but it requires you to have a dropper.

Capillary action method

This actually uses a wick or a strip of cloth, with one end placed on the potting soil and the other end placed in a container full of water, and the water level in the container needs to be higher than the position of the potting soil. In this way, through the capillary action of the plant, water can be continuously supplied to the potting soil.

Plastic bag covering method

First, you need to water the plant thoroughly. Prepare 3 to 4 thin sticks taller than the plant, then use a plastic bag to cover the entire plant and tie it to the pot. The thin sticks are to prevent the plastic bag from touching the leaves. With the plastic bag covering it, water vapor can be retained inside, and plenty of water droplets will form on the plastic bag. The water droplets can then drip back into the potting soil, and this can roughly maintain moisture for two to three weeks.

If you are only leaving home for not very long, about 10 days, you can just loosely cover the plant with a plastic bag. Potted plants covered with a plastic bag should be kept away from places with direct sunlight.
