Green background with a golden pig: the "Taiwan Pig Label" has been selected! Only meat products made with 100% domestically raised pigs can carry it; ensuring credibility will test inspection capacity
On January 1, 2021, pork from pigs fed ractopamine will be opened to imports. To strengthen the identification of domestically raised pork, the Council of Agriculture held an online competition for a "Taiwan Pig Identification Label." Today (the 6th), the winning list was announced, and the design by Lin Lihsun, featuring "white text on a green background with a golden Taiwan pig," was selected. Chen Chi-chung, chairman of the Council of Agriculture, said that in the future, for stores that post the label, the Council of Agriculture will also create a website map for the public to look up.
Chen Chi-chung said that currently 88% of domestically raised pork is traceable, and he is not worried about competition from imported pork, but market products must be clear and transparent. Next, restaurants and processing businesses in the country that use pork will be allowed to apply for the label, with a trial run expected to begin in November. Only if all pork or processed products used by a store are 100% domestically raised pork can this label be used.
