Ministry of Science and Technology boosts Tainan with NT$6 billion investment over five years for 5G R&D

Since the Executive Yuan passed the "Taiwan 5G Action Plan," both central and local governments have been fully committed to developing 5G application testing and services, in order to realize the two major visions of "leading with 5G to trigger cross-sector integration" and "advancing both virtual and physical to shape a new industrial landscape." With strong support from Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che, the city government joined hands with 11 units including 5G equipment, technology and terminal application companies as well as network backbone deployment operators to establish the "5G Tainan Team," and actively launched "5G vertical field" application technology testing.

Recently, Wu Kuang-chung, President of the National Applied Research Laboratories under the Ministry of Science and Technology, brought good news to Tainan on behalf of the Ministry. At the meeting, Lin Hsi-ching, Deputy Director of the National Center for High-performance Computing, gave a detailed briefing. In the future, more than NT$6 billion in related project funding will be invested in Tainan's two major industrial hubs (Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City and the Southern Taiwan Science Park).

Mayor Huang Wei-che said he was grateful that the Ministry of Science and Technology is willing to invest funding and resources in Tainan, including planning to build a 5G networking center and related equipment rooms at the Southern Taiwan Science Park, continuing to invest in autonomous vehicle testing and operation funding at the Shalun Park and handling the construction of the second building in Shalun Zone C, as well as the overland cable deployment for the submarine fiber optic cable landing. Whether it is hardware construction or the introduction of system equipment, all of this will add more energy to Tainan's two major industrial development engines at the Southern Taiwan Science Park and Shalun, attract global network service companies and domestic network server manufacturers and application providers to cooperate in Tainan, and promote the alignment of Tainan's industry-academia-research technology with international 5G applications. In the future, combined with guidance for the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries and the integration of forward-looking technology industries, it will certainly accelerate Tainan's transformation into a new smart technology capital.
