Stunning! Taroko's "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" Opens; Ministry of the Interior: Welcome to Book a Visit

A new domestic travel attraction! Ministry of the Interior Deputy Minister Chiu Chang-yueh presided over the opening ceremony of the "Taroko National Park Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" yesterday (the 12th). Deputy Minister Chiu Chang-yueh stated that the "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" is 153 m above the stream valley, offering a commanding, open view, and is a new domestic travel attraction suitable for the whole family to visit with peace of mind. In the initial period of operation, online reservations will be adopted, with 800 people admitted daily, and the public is welcome to come walk in Taroko while spending money and revitalizing the local tourism industry.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that the "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" was first built during the Japanese colonial period and was the longest wire bridge in Taroko Gorge. After the Central Cross-Island Highway opened, it took over the function of the Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge, and the suspension bridge gradually fell into disrepair. Although attempts were made to rebuild it, none were completed. The fourth-generation "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" now opened was successfully completed under the persistent efforts of the Taroko National Park Headquarters and the engineering team, taking more than 2 years and 9 months to overcome the perilous terrain of the gorge.

The "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge" spans the Liwu River in Taroko National Park. It is 196 m long, 2.5 m wide, and 153 m above the stream valley. The bridge tower is designed in the shape of the character "moon," echoing the surrounding mountains. Viewing platforms are set up on both the south and north banks of the suspension bridge, offering panoramic views of Swallow Grotto gorge, the Buluowan Terrace, and the Liwu River winding eastward through the mountains. The entire area meets barrier-free, people-oriented accessibility standards, with wheelchairs and strollers able to pass freely, making it a scenic trail suitable for the whole family to enjoy the magnificent gorge.

During the initial period of operation of the "Mountain Moon Suspension Bridge," an online reservation and guided interpretation system will be adopted, with professional interpreters providing visitors with in-depth explanations of Taroko Gorge's landscape ecology and the history of the suspension bridge. There will be 4 sessions daily at 9:00, 11:00, 13:30 and 15:30, with 200 people per session and 45 minutes per session. Online reservations open 7 days in advance. The public is welcome to make reservations on the Taroko National Park website (https://www.taroko.gov.tw/zh-tw/Service/MountainMoonBridge).
