Taitung County Magistrate April Yao: Large-Eye Sugar Apple Freshly Harvested Weekly, Flown to Hong Kong's High-End Market

In order to expand overseas sales markets, Magistrate April Yao has actively promoted the Large-Eye Sugar Apple from Taimali Township, recognized worldwide as the best-tasting, since taking office. Yesterday morning (the 21st), a press conference titled "Large-Eye Sugar Apples Must Fly Out from Taitung, Freshly Harvested Weekly and Flown to Hong Kong's High-End Market" was held at the Taimali Township Farmers' Association. Magistrate April Yao announced that Large-Eye Sugar Apples from Taimali Township will be transported by air from Kaohsiung Siaogang International Airport to Hong Kong, with fresh-picked fruit delivered directly to Hong Kong subscribers once a week.

The Taitung Large-Eye Sugar Apple marketing press conference was grandly held yesterday (the 21st) at 9:20 AM beside the visitor rest area of the Taimali Township Farmers' Association. Distinguished guests in attendance included Deputy Magistrate Wang Chih-hui, Hsu Hui-fei who had just been appointed as the new director of the Eastern Regional Branch of the Agriculture and Food Agency under the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, County Councilor Weng Li-yin, Deputy Director Ma Chih-an of the County Government's Agriculture Department, and Tai Chen-tung, Director-General of the County Farmers' Association who had originally promoted Taitung agricultural products in the north, who also personally attended.

Magistrate April Yao pointed out that of every 10 sugar apples in the country, 9 are produced in Taitung. This year, thanks to stable climate conditions, the Large-Eye Sugar Apples from Taimali Township are especially fresh, sweet and crisp. In addition, with successful production-period adjustment and favorable weather, the harvest season is expected to run from now until March or April of next year, and the fruit has also won the favor of the Hong Kong market, allowing it to enter Hong Kong's high-end market at a high price.

The Taitung County Agriculture Department stated that the event was specially launched at 9:48 AM in the hope that the direct air shipment of Taitung Large-Eye Sugar Apples to Hong Kong would "bring prosperity" and let farmers earn big money. After all, the planting area of Large-Eye Sugar Apples in Taitung exceeds 2,500 hectares, with an annual output of up to 28,000 metric tons, making it Taitung's most important economic fruit tree.
