How to improve the survival rate when taking flower cuttings? These four points are key

In today's life, many people have the habit and hobby of growing flowers. For flower enthusiasts, growing flowers not only cultivates the mind and character but also beautifies the environment. As flower-growing experience keeps improving, cutting propagation, as a main technique of flower propagation, has been highly praised by many people, and flower enthusiasts also like to tinker with and study cuttings themselves. Recently, many flower enthusiasts have reported that the survival rate of their flower cuttings is not high, and the cuttings basically wilt after a few days. So how can the survival rate of flower cuttings be improved? These four points are key.

1. Soil

Before taking cuttings, you must first understand the soil requirements of the flowering plant being propagated, such as whether it prefers acidic soil or alkaline soil, whether it prefers sandy soil or loam, and so on. All of these must be clearly understood. This is because different flowers have different soil requirements, and blindly taking cuttings in the same soil naturally cannot guarantee their survival rate.

2. Temperature

For flowering plant cuttings, the most suitable cutting temperature is generally about 20-25°C, because at this temperature the biological enzyme activity of the flower plant is relatively high, which speeds up its metabolism, and cell division also accelerates. This is more conducive to the rooting of the flower plant, and the cutting survival rate will also be higher. Therefore, before taking cuttings, we can first check the soil temperature and then make appropriate adjustments.

3. Humidity

Having discussed temperature, of course we should talk about humidity. Generally, the relative humidity suitable for rooting of flower cuttings is best kept at around 80%. If it is a succulent plant, the humidity can be relatively lower, at about 45%. Only by maintaining suitable humidity can the survival rate of cuttings be guaranteed. For flowers such as succulents that themselves do not like water, if the humidity is high, they basically will not root, and over time they may even rot, while low humidity will instead promote their rooting.

4. Light

The rooting and sprouting of most flower plants require light to promote growth, but special attention must be paid to the fact that during the process of taking flower cuttings, they must never be placed under the sun to dry out, as freshly cut branches generally cannot withstand it. Generally, placing them in a bright spot on the balcony is enough, while ensuring proper ventilation.

Overall, although these key points are easy to understand, they are indeed the most direct and crucial ones. Friends who like taking flower cuttings must pay attention to these four key points, otherwise the cutting work will backfire.
