Caota Sand Dunes Chaoyin Sea View Trail completed and opened, creating Taoyuan's first geopark

Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan went to Dayuan District yesterday (the 16th) in the morning to attend the "Caota Sand Dunes Geopark - Chaoyin Sea View Trail Completion and Opening Ceremony" and said that the "Caota Sand Dunes Geopark" is a buffer zone between the coast and the ocean. Its unique ecology has made it a secret spot for tourists to check in and take photos and for newlyweds to shoot wedding photos. It also combines the four core development values of "landscape conservation," "landscape tourism," "environmental education" and "community participation," becoming Taoyuan's first geopark. The completion and opening of the first ecological trail, the "Chaoyin Sea View Trail," is an important milestone for Taoyuan's geology and landscape, while the second, the "Baishatun Landscape Trail," is expected to be completed before the end of this year (109th year of the Republic of China). The city will also study building a bicycle path linking Xucuogang and the Caota Sand Dunes, actively promote certification of environmental education facilities and sites, set up the Caota Sand Dunes Geological Exhibition Hall, and in addition plans to establish the "Dakekan River Geopark" in the Daxi area, creating Taoyuan's second geopark.

Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan pointed out that the Taoyuan City Government decided on the direction for promoting the Caota Sand Dunes 3 years ago and established the Taoyuan City Review Committee for Natural Landscapes and Natural Monuments. After 2 years of preparation, in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act and the Regulations Governing the Designation and Revocation of Natural Landscapes and Natural Monuments, in June of this year it announced the designation of the Caota Sand Dunes as Taoyuan City's first municipal-designated geopark, the third geopark in the country, and also the country's first geopark with sand dunes as its protection target.

Those attending the opening ceremony included Legislator Huang Shih-chieh, City Councilors Hsu Chi-wan, Yu Wu-ho, city government Environmental Protection Bureau Director Lu Li-te, Tourism Bureau Deputy Director Wang Chen-hung, Agriculture Bureau Deputy Director Chiang Fu-kuei, Coast Management Office Director Lin Li-chang, Dayuan District Chief Hsu Lan-ke, and Guanyin District Chief Hung Ching-yuan.
