Chiayi City Dragon Boat Festival: Family Assistance spreads zongzi fragrance, wrapping tradition and enclosing love

The Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year are the three most important festivals. The Dragon Boat Festival holiday at the end of June is coming soon, so the Chiayi Family Assistance Center specially held a zongzi fragrance event yesterday (the 14th), with 92 parents and children from 40 families taking part. With the help of volunteers, parents and teenagers from every household joined the ranks of wrapping zongzi, each personally wrapping two strings of 40 meat zongzi. The atmosphere on site was warm and the fragrance of zongzi filled the air. Chiayi City Mayor Huang Min-hui also took part in person, wrapping zongzi together with everyone.

Mayor Huang Min-hui said that on the eve of the Dragon Boat Festival, the fragrance of zongzi drifts through every household, and mothers, grandmothers and good neighbors all gather together to prepare ingredients and wrap zongzi. This warm atmosphere is the most beautiful memory for every family, and also the warmest cultural inheritance. Today the Family Assistance Center invited everyone to wrap zongzi together and also prepared sachets, and stood eggs with the children. Not only is it fun, it actually turns the good customs of Dragon Boat Festival culture into seeds sown in every child's heart.

Mayor Huang Min-hui also expressed great thanks that the Chiayi Family Assistance Center has long assisted disadvantaged families, providing programs such as financial assistance, child protection and foster care services, and specially invited 92 parents and children from 40 economically disadvantaged families in Chiayi County and City to take part in the Dragon Boat Festival event, creating the most beautiful life memories between parents and children.

The Family Assistance Center said that disadvantaged families having the chance to tie zongzi with their own hands carries a lot of meaning. For new immigrant parents, wrapping zongzi together is a way of integrating into Taiwanese culture; for elders and young people, grandmothers teaching young mothers and teenagers to tie zongzi has the value of passing on tradition. Even more, thanks go to the many kind-hearted people and organizations that generously sponsored ingredients such as zongzi leaves, pork, shiitake mushrooms, dried shrimp and salted duck eggs, jointly making this year's zongzi fragrance event possible, letting adults and children alike enjoy lively and fun family time.
