New Taipei Goes to "Market": A Miniature Traditional Market Appears at the New Taipei City Government

Have you visited a market today? Starting on the 8th, the New Taipei City Market Office is holding the "New Taipei Good Market Life School - New Life of Traditional Markets" special exhibition, bringing a scaled-down market into the city government building for the first time, on display from June 8 to June 20, daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 1st floor of the New Taipei City Government. In addition, guided tours will be offered at 2 p.m. on June 13 and 14, and parent-child summer camp activities will be held on July 17 and 24 at the Huangshi Interim Market and the Linkou Market respectively. Online registration opens simultaneously starting today, with participants selected by lottery.

Mayor Hou Yu-ih attended the opening ceremony on site and joined children in getting a first taste of the special exhibition. Mayor Hou Yu-ih said that through this special exhibition, besides letting the public rediscover the market, it also lets people appreciate that the rebuilding and renovation of markets changes not only hardware facilities but also includes improvements on the software side, in the hope of bringing about a shift in consumer lifestyles. This special exhibition combines technology, aesthetics and food and agriculture education, showcasing the coexistence of old markets and new aesthetics, and also symbolizes the beginning of the transformation of traditional markets, inviting citizens to experience the new lifestyle model of markets together.

The "New Taipei Good Market Life School - New Life of Traditional Markets" special exhibition is divided into two major exhibition areas. Besides learning about the results of New Taipei's market rebuilding and renovation, it also cooperates with the National Taiwan Museum, using some realistic fruit and vegetable exhibits to offer an interactive experience giving a glimpse of "a day in the life of a vendor" and simulated cooking. The "Future Market" exhibition area is created based on the imagery of the Huangshi Interim Market building, using interactive projection experiences to take in the transformed appearance of New Taipei's markets. The east exhibition area is divided into 7 aspects: "Pick Your Own Fresh Vegetables," "Breaking Myths Battle," "Market Economics," "So This Is How It Is," "Try Your Hand at the Market," "How to Choose Fruit" and "Great New Taipei, Heartwarming New Taipei," using interactive experiences to link food and agriculture education and bring more good "market" life experiences through sight and touch.
