Care tips for the Chinese rose

The Chinese rose is a plant that loves sunlight very much. If there is not enough light, it is very difficult to make it bloom every month. To make Chinese roses bloom all year round, you must grasp the following four keys.

(1) Sunlight must be sufficient: The place where Chinese roses are planted must be well ventilated and able to receive more than half a day of sunlight. This is the primary condition for them to bloom abundantly like brocade.

(2) Regular pruning is needed: Although the sunlight conditions are good, Chinese roses will not grow well if they are not pruned for a long time. The pruning method is: after December each year, when the Chinese rose leaves fall, carry out one pruning; after May, each time a round of blooming finishes, cut away 2/3 or 1/2 of the branch that has bloomed, so there will be more opportunities for regenerated flower buds. The wounds caused by pruning should be sealed in time with healing and antiseptic membrane to prevent the wounds from drying and cracking and from pest and disease damage, and to promote the rapid growth of callus tissue.

(3) Fertilization should be frequent and timely: Generally, newly planted or transplanted potted Chinese roses can be cultivated with humus-rich and loose loess. After May is the peak growing season for Chinese roses. Every 10 days, apply 1 topdressing, and stop fertilizing in November. If this fertilization stage is handled well, its weakness of fearing high temperatures in summer can be overcome.

(4) Pests and diseases should be prevented in time: In spring, Chinese roses are prone to aphids, which can be sprayed with water soaked with cigarette butts or diluted trichlorfon; in summer, they are prone to black spot disease and powdery mildew, both caused by excessive humidity and stuffiness. For mild cases, some diseased leaves can be removed; for severe cases, spray new high-lipid membrane + Bordeaux mixture or thiophanate, sterilizing agent, etc. 2-3 times at intervals of about 10 days for prevention and control.
