Reasonable fertilizing techniques for flowers

Fertilizing is a very important part of the cultivation and management of flowers. If you want the flowers you grow to have lush branches and leaves, brilliant colors, and abundant fruit, you must master scientific fertilizing methods.

1. Fertilize according to fertilizer characteristics:

At present, there are many special fertilizers for flowers on the market, and it is best for home gardeners to choose from them, as this is both convenient and hygienic. Among inorganic fertilizers, there are special fertilizers for flowering plants, fruit-bearing plants, and foliage plants, as well as compound fertilizers. Among organic fertilizers, there are rotted poultry manure, as well as unrotted soybean cake, sesame paste residue, horse hoof pieces, and so on. Fertilizing should be chosen according to different flower varieties and different growth stages. For example, flowering woody plants should be given compound fertilizer during the vegetative growth period, special fertilizer for flowering plants when entering the flowering period, and special fertilizer for fruit-bearing plants when entering the fruiting period. Foliage woody plants should be given special fertilizer for foliage plants.

2. Fertilize according to the growth period:

Before the plant sprouts or at the early stage of leaf expansion, apply bud-promoting fertilizer; at this stage, fertilizing should be mainly nitrogen fertilizer, supplemented by phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. From before the plant flowers to the flowering period, apply bud-promoting and flower-promoting fertilizer; at this stage, fertilizing should be mainly phosphorus fertilizer. From after the plant flowers to the fruiting period, apply supplementary fertilizer; at this stage, apply compound fertilizer complete in the three elements of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium and trace elements. During the plant's dormant or overwintering period, apply base fertilizer; combined with soil improvement measures, fertilizing at this stage should be mainly organic fertilizer.

3. Fertilize according to the growth vigor of the flowers:

Different flowers need different soil environmental conditions. When environmental conditions differ greatly, the flowers do not adapt and their growth vigor is weak. Fertilizing should determine the application amount according to growth vigor. For the same variety, robustly growing plants can be given sufficient fertilizer according to the fertilizer instructions, while weakly growing plants should have the application amount reduced as appropriate, and then gradually increased to the normal application amount. Weakly growing plants have a weak ability to absorb and tolerate fertilizer; if the amount is too strong, the result will be the opposite of what is intended.

In short, reasonable fertilizing should follow the principles of balanced nutrient elements and the combination of organic fertilizer and inorganic fertilizer, and should be applied flexibly according to the type and growth status of the flowers. At the same time, note that fertilizing is not suitable when the temperature is high around noon, and especially do not apply concentrated fertilizer. When repotting or transplanting flowers and trees, base fertilizer should be applied.
