In spring, all things revive. Although everything shows a scene of vitality everywhere, under this phenomenon various pests also appear. This period is the busiest and most worrying time for flower growers. Although the plants and flowers they grow also regain vitality, various yellow leaves, pests and diseases also easily appear. So what pests and diseases are plants prone to in spring, and are there ways to treat them?

I. Aphids

Spring is the period when aphids are most active, and during this time all kinds of plants are easily attacked by aphids. This pest and disease gradually increases with the arrival of the warm spring. At this time, flower growers must pay attention, especially friends who grow Chinese roses, hibiscus and honeysuckle, who need to take extra care.

The damage caused by aphids is relatively persistent, so for quite a long period in spring, flower growers must not take their preventive work lightly. If aphid damage occurs, friends should not be too anxious. Some disinfectants can be used to kill aphids, such as phosmet and omethoate. Friends who have not bought disinfectants can also choose neutral washing powder diluted 100 times to eliminate the insects.

II. Red spider mites

This is also one of the most common pests in spring. Starting from April each year, flower growers must be especially careful in dealing with red spider mite prevention. In daily care, they should often pay attention to cleaning the hygiene of the flowers, and spray the leaves with water more often, cleaning dust from both the front and back sides.

The flowers mainly harmed by red spider mites include: jasmine, dahlia and asparagus fern.

III. Scale insects

Similar to red spider mites, scale insects are also a relatively common pest in spring. Scale insects are relatively small, so daily observation must be careful; pay more attention to whether insect eggs appear on the plants. If scale insect eggs are found on the plants, promptly spray a 40% omethoate solution diluted 1,000 times for disinfection.

The main targets harmed by scale insects: Chinese roses, white magnolia, pittosporum, boxwood, etc.

IV. Damping-off and rose rust

These two are the most common diseases of spring flowers. In spring, the temperature gradually rises and the humidity also gradually increases. At this time, flowers that have just been planted for only a few months are most likely to get sick. If damping-off appears in the flowers, immediately irrigate with ferrous sulfate or amobam solution for treatment. If rose rust appears in the flowers, first observe whether the whole plant is diseased or only a few leaves are diseased. If only the leaves are diseased, then simply remove the pathogen, that is, pick off the leaves with rust; if the whole plant is diseased, spray a 15% triadimefon solution diluted 1,000 times for treatment.
