How to choose a suitable pot for potted flowers
When growing flowers, choosing the pot is also very important. How should pots be chosen for potted flowers? Let's take a look together below.
For potting, unglazed clay pots with good drainage can generally be used. In addition, some people also use wooden pots, cement pots, stone pots, plastic pots, porcelain pots, glass pots, stone and wooden products, and so on, all of which are acceptable; considering plant growth and development, economy, and convenience of work, most people still find unglazed clay pots suitable. In recent years, environmentally friendly flower pots made from biodegradable plastic polylactic acid PLA have also appeared on the market. Plastic flower pots come in two types: soft growing pots and hard flower pots.
(1) Potting up: Decide the size of the pot according to the size of the plant. Cover the bottom hole with a tile, put in a little coarse-grained soil, then add fine-grained soil until the pot is half full, take the seedling and plant it in the pot, hold it upright with the left hand, then with the right hand add fine soil until it is about 1-2 cm from the pot surface, then press it firm, and then water the plant with a fine-holed watering can or immerse the bottom of the pot in water.
(2) Repotting: Generally, perennial herbaceous flowers must be repotted from winter to spring. Take the plant out of the pot; water once one or two days before taking it out, so that the potting soil is neither dry nor wet and easy to handle. Generally, use the right hand to press and move the soil at the edge of the pot 2-3 times, then use the left hand to press the pot surface, from the topsoil downward, and use the right thumb to push the soil in the pot from the bottom hole, so that the plant can be tipped out of the original pot; after tipping it out, properly prune some fibrous roots and old weak branches, then plant it into a new pot according to the above method and add new growing soil.
(3) Points to note when using flower pots: Wash them clean before use. New unglazed clay pots can generally be soaked in water until fully moistened before use, otherwise the pot absorbing water will affect the growth of the flowers and trees. The size of the pot must match the size of the flower, and the potting soil must be consistent with the nature of the flowers and plants.
