Three Practical Ways to Control Pests on Balcony Flowers
Ordinary households growing plants on balconies and indoors have a relatively small area, so highly toxic pesticides are not suitable for pest control. If you switch to laundry detergent, tobacco liquid, chive liquid, or chili liquid for control, not only is the process cumbersome (the materials must be mashed, soaked, and filtered), but the effect is also slow, requiring spraying two or three times a day. If not handled well, the alkaline laundry detergent can also cause phytotoxicity to acid-loving plants such as rhododendrons, orchids, Aglaia odorata, and Chloranthus spicatus. How can pests be killed safely and quickly?
Methods:
1: Fumigate with mosquito coils. Light a mosquito coil and hang it on the infested plant, then seal the plant and flower pot with plastic film. After 1 hour, all aphids, red spider mites, and whiteflies are eliminated. This method is especially suitable for kumquats, which are prone to red spider mite damage.
2: Dilute essential balm with water at 400-500 times and spray it on the plants. Essential balm has a strong penetrating effect, so it is effective against various pests, especially pests that ordinary insecticidal liquids cannot handle, such as green scale insects (Coccus viridis), where it shows even more remarkable results.
3: Flowers with tuberous roots (such as peonies and dahlias), flowers with bulbs (such as lilies and Lycoris radiata), and flowers with fleshy root systems are often damaged by nematodes without being easily noticed. Simply crush mothballs (camphor balls) and place them in the potting soil, and underground pests will be unable to survive.
