Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che Recommends Tainan Pineapples; Local Enterprises Order 1,000 Boxes

It is now the peak season for pineapples. Tainan City, together with the Shanshang District Farmers' Association, held a corporate purchasing and marketing press conference for agricultural products yesterday (the 14th) at a pineapple farm in Shanshang District to jointly promote Tainung No. 16 Honey Sweet pineapple. Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che appeared as the best salesman, enjoying fresh Shanshang pineapples and vigorously promoting the high nutritional value of pineapples. He received an enthusiastic response from enterprises in the Shanshang Industrial Zone, and more than 1,000 boxes of pineapples were ordered on the spot. Local enterprises used concrete actions to support Tainan farmers.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che said that Tainan is one of the hometowns of pineapple, with an annual pineapple output of 73,000 metric tons, and this year's output has not decreased either. Last year (2019), pineapple exports accounted for 5% of total output, about 3,700 metric tons. Although exports this year decreased due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the decrease was just offset by increased consumption in the domestic market, and pineapple prices remained stable and did not collapse because of promotions. Tainan's overall pineapple production and sales order can be said to be very good.

The Tainan City Agriculture Bureau pointed out that the pineapple cultivation area within Shanshang District is about 300 hectares, and more than 80% of it is Honey Sweet pineapple. Honey Sweet pineapple is currently widely planted in Shanshang and the Minxiong area of Chiayi, and its chance of appearing on the market is not as great as that of Tainung No. 17 Golden Diamond.

To promote fruit and take care of local farmers, this marketing event actively matched enterprises and organizations to enthusiastically place orders. More than 20 enterprises in the Shanshang Industrial Zone used actions to support local agricultural products, ordering a total of about 1,000 boxes or more of pineapples. Interested members of the public can also order directly from the Supply and Marketing Department of the Shanshang District Farmers' Association (phone: 06-5783649).
