How to Repot Flowers: Flower Repotting Work

A must-learn for beginners! Illustrated guide to flower repotting. Repotting is a very basic yet important task, but how exactly should you do it? The full step-by-step illustrated guide to moving a plant from a small pot to a larger one lets you learn it all at once!

Flowers bought from the flower market: the plant is already large, and the soft pot does not provide enough space.

Usually, the potted plants we buy from the flower market, whether they are in 3-inch black soft pots or larger plastic pots, already have fairly large plants inside, so you can repot them as soon as you bring them home. For plants at home that have been growing for a long time, whose roots have grown out from the bottom of the pot, or whose branches and leaves have grown well beyond the rim of the pot, you should also repot them.

Repotting Work Step by Step

1. Grab the entire base of the plant with one hand, and support the bottom of the pot with the other hand to take the plant out.

2. Gently loosen the roots and old soil with your hands.

3. Use scissors to cut away aged roots, branches and leaves.

4. Cut a piece of mesh or plastic burlap of an appropriate size and place it at the bottom of the new pot.

5. Add a layer of larger-particle calcined stone or gravel.

6. Add pre-mixed growing medium to about 1/3 of the height of the pot.

7. Add fertilizer and mix it thoroughly with the medium.

8. Support the base of the plant with one hand, and slowly add the medium with the other hand.

9. Press the medium gently with your hands to make the plant stable and to make the medium fit closely around the roots.

10. Keep filling with soil up to the standard line of the pot, then water the plant, and the repotting work is complete.
