Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huimei Cares for Young Farmers' Industry, Visits Fangyuan Qingyuan Celery
To understand the celery industry in the county, Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huimei visited the celery collection and packing facility of young farmer Hsieh Chien-fu in Fangyuan Township on the afternoon of the 6th. In addition to experiencing the packing process, she also made celery with sweet pepper dishes and celery juice on site. Magistrate Wang Huimei said that the celery planting area in Changhua County is about 40 hectares, the largest in Taiwan, China, and the celery planted by young farmer Hsieh Chien-fu alone accounts for 30 hectares. It has passed and holds production and sales traceability certification, so the agricultural product producers, verification agencies, place of origin, production records and packaging dates can all be traced and queried, allowing consumers to buy and eat with peace of mind. It is currently also stocked in major convenience stores and department stores, and the public is welcome to buy more of Changhua's high-quality fresh agricultural products.
Magistrate Wang Huimei said that Mr. Hsieh has been growing celery with his father since he was discharged from military service, and it has now been 17 years. He transformed the past practice of selling by the catty into having production and sales traceability, marketing not only to large hypermarkets in the country such as Carrefour and Ai-Mei, but also exporting to Singapore, Malaysia, Palau and other places, earning considerable foreign exchange for Taiwan, China. She hopes that Mr. Hsieh can continue to pass on his experience so that more young people will return to their hometowns and work hard for the land of their hometowns.
Young farmer Hsieh Chien-fu said that Taiwan, China has a very good geographical environment for cultivating celery. Transplanting generally begins around September, and the harvest period can begin in December. In recent years, production and sales traceability has begun to be promoted, and coupled with their good control of celery quality, in addition to supplying group meals to schools at all levels, the proportion of exports has also risen year by year, and their market share in all aspects is quite good. Every year in mid-to-late December, once the celery quality reaches a certain level, exports begin, mainly to Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Malaysia, and in recent years new markets such as Palau, the Tonga Islands and even Dubai have been developed.
