A Model of Young Farmers Returning Home: The Story of Going from Tech Factory Manager to Farm Manager

Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei supports local young farmers. On the morning of April 8, she visited the protected small-fruit tomato greenhouse of young farmer Ke Jing-fa at "Jingfa Greenhouse Farm" in Shengang Township. Shengang Township Chief Zeng Huan-zhang and others also went along to show their support. Young farmer Ke Jing-fa was once a tech factory manager and became a farm manager. He is a member of the second vegetable production and marketing group of Xiushui Township, and won first place in the 106th year National Agricultural Innovative Management Experience Sharing Competition. "Jingfa Greenhouse Farm" is different from ordinary greenhouses: its cultivation management combines agricultural technology for control, and the automated greenhouse farm grows pesticide-free tomatoes. Although the small tomato harvest is now at its tail end, a certain quality and sweetness can still be maintained, so consumers can still eat the Yunv small tomato with both good texture and flavor during this period. Magistrate Wang Huei-mei said that Ke Jing-fa was once a tech factory manager and later returned home to build Jingfa Greenhouse Farm. This is a very good model of a young farmer returning home, and she hopes more young people will return to their hometowns to cherish this land together and work hard with us. She called on fellow residents to buy more of the excellent fruits and vegetables produced in Changhua, which not only helps farmers but also lets people eat nutritious, healthy food to fight the epidemic.

Magistrate Wang Huei-mei said that young farmer Ke Jing-fa is also very good at marketing. He grades his products into A, B and C levels. The good-quality ones are sent to the auction market, while the lower-grade ones are marketed through nearby large-volume retail stores, and the income is quite good. In this way, he encourages young people who want to farm to also take up agricultural work.

Magistrate Wang Huei-mei called for the current promotion of the "Five-Year Plan for Facility-Based Agriculture", which plans to promote 2,000 hectares of reinforced greenhouse and net houses, and to guide and subsidize farmers in building reinforced-structure greenhouse and net house facilities to reduce the burden on farmers.
