Care of the cyclamen flower

Cyclamen is a greenhouse-cultivated flower. In potted flower production, problems such as poor growth, scattered plant shape, and severe pests and diseases are often caused by unsuitable environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, light). Therefore, controlling and managing the greenhouse environmental conditions well is the key to ensuring economic returns from cyclamen potted flower production.

(1) Temperature. Temperature has a great influence on the growth of cyclamen and, to a certain extent, determines the stages of dormancy, growth, and flowering. Cyclamen can grow normally at temperatures of 12-28°C. When the temperature is below 12°C, it shows slow growth and difficulty flowering. When the temperature is above 28°C, the vast majority of cyclamen plants show yellowing and shedding of leaves and enter a dormant state.

(2) Humidity and ventilation. Cyclamen is tolerant of dryness and not of moisture. When the relative air humidity is greater than 80%, it is prone to diseases, so cyclamen should be kept from remaining in a high-humidity environment for a long time. Especially under high-temperature conditions in summer, high humidity must be prevented even more. In winter, attention should be paid to strengthening ventilation so as to reduce air humidity, but the ventilation time should not be too long, so as to avoid excessively low temperatures.

(3) Light. Strong direct light or excessively weak light is not conducive to the growth of cyclamen. Therefore, in the hot summer, a shade net should be set up on the greenhouse ceiling, and in winter during the full flowering period, sufficient light must be ensured. If the light is too weak, the plant becomes scattered, and the petioles become leggy and lodge, causing it to lose its ornamental value. Cyclamen is a day-neutral plant, and flower formation has no special requirement for photoperiod, but longer lighting is beneficial to the growth and flowering of cyclamen.
