Controlling flower pests: which common household items can be used

(1) Pyrethrum mosquito coils: Light a pyrethrum mosquito coil and hang it on the plant, then seal it with plastic film for 10 minutes to fumigate and kill whiteflies. You can also collect white-flowered pyrethrum (Tanacetum cinerariifolium) yourself, dry it in the sun and grind it into powder, add about 20 kg of water per 100 grams, filter, then add a small amount of neutral laundry detergent, mix well and spray. This can control aphids, leafhoppers, cabbage caterpillars, leaf beetles and others.
(2) Mie Hai Ling insecticide: The Mie Hai Ling spray sold on the market not only kills mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches, but is also a good remedy for controlling pests on flowers and trees. When flowers and trees are found to be harmed by aphids, red spider mites, scale insects, whiteflies, caterpillars and soil flies, Mie Hai Ling spray can wipe out the pests on contact. But be careful not to spray too much, otherwise it will damage some leaves, especially delicate indoor foliage plants.
(3) Soapy water: Take ordinary laundry soap, cut it into thin slices, dissolve it in hot water, add water at a ratio of 1:(60-70), and spray after cooling to control aphids and spider mites. If you soak cigarette butts (not ash) in soapy water, besides improving the control of aphids and spider mites, it can also control thrips, whiteflies and leafhoppers at the same time. But soapy water should not be used for a long time either, as it easily makes the potting soil alkaline.
(4) Fengyoujing (essential balm): Dilute 600-800 times and apply to control aphids, scale insects and moth and butterfly larvae; a 400-600 times solution can control red spider mites.
(5) Potassium permanganate: Potassium permanganate solution can control flower powdery mildew. In the early stage of the disease, spray with a 0.1{bf}-0.2{bf} solution, about once every 7 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays, and the effect can reach more than 92{bf}.
(6) Baking soda solution: Take 5 grams of baking soda, first dissolve it with a small amount of alcohol, then add about 1000 grams of water to make a 0.5{bf} concentration solution, and spray the plants to control powdery mildew.
(7) Plant ash: Take 500 grams of plant ash, add 2.5 kg of water, soak for 1 day and night, filter out impurities, and spray the affected plants with the clear filtrate to effectively kill aphids.
(8) Iodine tincture: If the main trunk of a woody flower is rotten, first scrape off all the rotten part, reaching down to the xylem, then apply iodine tincture, and apply again after 7-10 days. Not only can it completely cure the problem, but over time it will make the trunk develop prominent burls, giving it an even more ancient and unique charm.
(9) Gentian violet: Scrape off the gum exuding from the branches of flowers and trees, then apply gentian violet to the scraped wound, once every 10 days. After 2-3 times, gummosis can be controlled.
(10) Alcohol: Apply alcohol with a cotton ball to leaves damaged by powdery mildew 2-3 times to control the disease.
(11) Ammonia water: When courtyard flowers and trees are damaged by borers such as longhorn beetles, jewel beetles and wood moths, during the larval hatching period, before adult emergence, and when larvae overwinter, inject 20-30 ml of 20{bf} ammonia water from the upper hole of the insect tunnel, then seal the borer hole with clay or wax for 30-40 minutes to kill the larvae or pupae, with an effectiveness rate of more than 95{bf}.
(12) Diesel emulsion: Mix diesel, neutral laundry detergent and water at a ratio of 10:0.6:6 to make a stock solution. The stock solution is milky in appearance. Then add 20 times clean water to control scale insects.
(13) Baijiu: Mix baijiu and clean water at a ratio of 1:5, then apply it to the parts damaged by scale insects, once a week, and after 3-4 consecutive times the pests can be killed. This method can also control pests such as aphids and red spider mites.
(14) Hair: Cut hair into small pieces (0.5-1 cm) and mix it evenly into the potting soil to control white grubs, earthworms, wireworms and mollusks.
(15) Tobacco tar: The tobacco tar remaining in the pipes of tobacco smokers in rural areas has a very good insecticidal effect. Soak each bamboo tobacco pipe in 250 grams of water to kill pests such as aphids, red spider mites and cutworms.
(16) Cigarette butt water: Soak cigarette butts in water and spray the leaves to kill aphids and red spider mites.
(17) Laundry detergent: The effect of laundry detergent is equivalent to a contact insecticide and acaricide. It has good control effects on aphids, mites, whiteflies and scale insects that commonly occur in home flower growing. A commonly used 500-800 times solution of neutral laundry detergent sprayed can control adult aphids and mites, and also has an inhibitory effect on mite egg hatching; a 300-500 times solution sprayed can control whiteflies and scale insect nymphs; an 800-1000 times solution used to drench roots can control root-knot and tuber nematodes. In addition, laundry detergent also has a certain control effect on some lepidopteran larvae and pierid butterfly larvae. When using laundry detergent, attention should be paid to choosing neutral laundry detergent to prevent excessive alkalinity from burning tender leaves. If burning of tender leaves is found after spraying, immediately spray clean water to wash off the residual laundry detergent. The concentration used differs for different flowers, so a concentration test should be done first, and then spraying can be carried out.
(18) Tea seed cake: Grind tea seed cake, soak it in boiling water for 1 day and night, filter, then dilute with water 20-30 times and spray to control aphids, snails, slugs and others. Diluting with water about 100 times and spraying has a certain control effect on rust disease.
