A must-visit night carnival worldwide! "Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival" sends a thousand lanterns rising into the sky at Shifen
"Northern sky lanterns, southern beehive firecrackers" is an annual Lantern Festival highlight in Taiwan, China! The "2020 New Taipei City Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival" is also a must-visit night carnival event worldwide. The second Lantern Festival sky lantern event on the 8th was grandly held at Shifen Square in Pingxi, New Taipei City! This world-famous international event brings a great number of international travelers to Shifen Square every year, coming from afar to take part in the once-in-a-lifetime "Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival." In particular, when the 20 ft Mazu sky lantern rose into the air, accompanied by more than a hundred sky lanterns flying upward in unison, the whole event reached its climax, and cheers and exclamations of admiration on site were endless!
At the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival event held at Shifen Square, a total of ten waves of sky lantern releases were arranged, with 150 lanterns per wave. The scene was quite spectacular, especially when the painted "Mazu sky lantern" main lantern, locally called "Sky Lantern Mazu," appeared, which could be said to be the biggest highlight of the event. Mazu belief culture is an important traditional custom in Taiwan, China, and foreign media have even described the Mazu pilgrimage procession in Taiwan, China as one of the world's three major religious activities. On the 8th, the release of the 20 ft "Mazu sky lantern" main lantern, more than 2 stories high, was carried out by chairmen from nearby Mazu temples, who together wielded ink brushes on stage to write auspicious blessings such as "Mazu blesses, Shifen wish-fulfilling," and together lit and released the "Sky Lantern Mazu." This also allowed the Mazu sky lantern, reaching the heavens, to bless everyone with everything going exactly as wished and with great happiness in the new year, with countless good days ahead!
In addition to the "Mazu sky lantern," there were also "painted art sky lanterns" designed with the participation of young students from art-related departments at senior high schools, vocational high schools, colleges and universities in New Taipei City. This year's theme was "Year of the Rat, blessings," and through the collective creation of young students, the sky lanterns not only retained traditional literary congratulatory inscriptions, but also made the dotted sky lanterns decorating the night sky appear more diverse in style, dreamy, and richly artistic!
