How to Diagnose Flower Chlorosis? Make Clever Use of Ferrous Sulfate

Using Ferrous Sulfate to Diagnose Flower Chlorosis

Due to iron deficiency, flowers will suffer from chlorosis. At present, the main measure for treating this disease is to apply ferrous sulfate. Because of inaccurate diagnosis, cases of flowers being harmed by improper application of ferrous sulfate occur repeatedly.

Under normal circumstances, judging that a flower has chlorosis merely by yellowing of the branches and leaves is not accurate, because many factors can cause the branches and leaves of flowers to turn yellow. A simple and safe diagnostic method is introduced below.

Dissolve 1 gram of ferrous sulfate in 200 milliliters of water. Because such a dilute ferrous sulfate solution spoils easily, a small iron nail and one drop of concentrated sulfuric acid should be put in to prevent it from being oxidized and hydrolyzed. Pour the prepared ferrous sulfate solution into a brown bottle and store it sealed. After that, this solution can be taken at any time to diagnose whether a flower has chlorosis. When using it, simply dip up some of the prepared ferrous sulfate solution and apply it to one leaf of the flower to be diagnosed. Observe after 10 days. If the color of this leaf is found to turn green, it indicates that the diagnosed flower has chlorosis and should be treated.
