The 2020 Tainan Military Dependents' Village Food Festival opens with fanfare to welcome the Spring Festival
After a 5-year hiatus, the 2020 Tainan Military Dependents' Village Food Festival is opening with fanfare once again! On the morning of the 9th, the "2020 Tainan Military Dependents' Village Food Festival - New Year Goods Street" opened amid great excitement next to the Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium, bringing together specialty military dependents' village dishes, a variety of dried goods and ingredients, Spring Festival supplies and other New Year goods in abundance. Mayor Huang Wei-che and Tourism Bureau Director Chen Hsin-an attended the opening ceremony, while city councilors Lin Mei-yen, Wang Chia-chen, Chou Li-chin and Shen Chen-tung, along with many local borough chiefs and members of the public, were also present to join the celebration. The event kicked off with a wonderful performance by the Yongren High School Lion Dance Troupe, filling the site with the lively and joyful atmosphere of the New Year.
Director Chin Kuan-hung of the Nanying Military Dependents' Village Culture Museum said that as old buildings are gradually demolished, military dependents' village culture is fading, and the number of authentic food shops has also declined. The organizers therefore made a point of visiting households one by one to seek out the "village mothers" hidden away in the alleys and invite them to set up stalls on site. Authentic sausages and cured meat, Shandong flatbread, gangzitou (hard steamed buns), Cantonese-style cold dressed pig head meat, lion's head meatballs, braised beef and other delicacies are absolutely the most authentic flavors of the military dependents' villages. It is hoped that the return of this Military Dependents' Village Food Festival will not only let everyone taste the old flavors, but also bring back classic memories of village life.
In addition, after eating and drinking their fill, visitors can also stop by the Shueijiaoshe Cultural Park to see the historic military dependents' housing quarters and the eight themed pavilions, reliving classic village memories and the rich festive atmosphere of the New Year, while also helping friends from all over get to know this precious military dependents' village culture. The event runs from now until the 13th, daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and residents are welcome to come and soak up the rich traditional festive spirit.
