The three major factors affecting the lifespan of flower seeds

Many flower enthusiasts often use the sowing method when cultivating flowers, but some enthusiasts find that if they do not sow the seeds in time after purchasing them, the seeds have already died and can no longer germinate. So exactly which factors affect the lifespan of flower seeds?

Camellia

1. Flower variety

Different varieties of flowers have different structures and thicknesses of their seed coats.

2. The intactness of the seed coat

An intact seed coat can prevent the passage of oxygen and moisture, keeping the seeds in an intact dormant state and preserving their lifespan.

3. Environmental conditions

Fully dried seeds can withstand relatively high and relatively low temperatures. When the temperature is high, because the seeds lack sufficient moisture, their physiological activities are also inhibited, avoiding and reducing the consumption of the seeds' nutrients. However, excessive drying can also cause seeds to lose their germination capacity. Low temperatures can inhibit seed respiration and extend their lifespan. Generally, storage at 1-5°C under conditions without direct sunlight is preferable.
