Matching Local Agricultural, Fishery and Livestock Products: Yunlin County Magistrate Inspects Nutritional Lunch Meal Quality

Yunlin County - Since 2019, it has proactively matched nutritional lunches with locally sourced high-quality agricultural, fishery and livestock products. County Magistrate Chang Li-shan went to Douliu Senior High School at noon yesterday (the 23rd) to show concern for the school's meal quality and had lunch with the students. She thanked the school for cooperating with the county government's policy and proactively choosing local high-quality agricultural, fishery, livestock and poultry products. She also affirmed that the dishes provided by the school for lunch were prepared with great care in both quality and quantity, and expressed the hope that all schools in the county could join in, using fresh and delicious local ingredients to lay a good nutritional foundation for children.

For nutritional lunches at Yunlin County's elementary, junior high and senior high schools, the ingredient cost was originally only 23.8 yuan per person per meal. After County Magistrate Chang Li-shan took office, she secured support from the Formosa Plastics Group to add extra dishes for students, with a subsidy of 7.1 yuan per person per meal, bringing it up to the national average of 30.9 yuan.

County Magistrate Chang Li-shan pointed out that Yunlin County is a major county for agriculture and livestock production. Not only are its agricultural products fresh and delicious, but its local livestock and poultry products are also very diverse. In order to let students eat Yunlin's high-quality agricultural, fishery, livestock and poultry products, the county government proactively matches schools with locally sourced ingredients from Yunlin that have traceability certification. For example, the beef and pork for lunch both have production traceability certification, the rice is the most delicious Koshihikari rice, the vegetables are organic black-leaf Chinese cabbage, and the baby corn and steamed eggs are also local ingredients. Even the fruit includes Citong bananas. The aim is to let children eat fresh local and seasonal ingredients, while also helping hardworking farmers and fishermen market their products, creating a win-win situation.

At present, 15 schools in the county have responded together, including Douliu Senior High School, Taixi Elementary School, Lunfeng Elementary School, Mailiao Elementary School, Yuanchang Elementary School and Shiliu Elementary School. The schools directly choose local agricultural, fishery and livestock products to cook nutritional lunches. In addition, nearly 60 schools have asked suppliers to purchase local high-quality agricultural, fishery, livestock and poultry products. County Magistrate Chang Li-shan said she hopes all schools across the county can join in and choose local ingredients from Yunlin. She also especially thanked all the farmers and fishermen in Yunlin County for being willing to provide ingredients to local children at cost, giving them a good nutritional foundation during their growth.
