The 2019 Hsinchu City Military Dependents' Village Cultural Festival was held yesterday (the 22nd) at Dongda Flying Park. With the theme "Youth in the Military Dependents' Village - Telling the Youth Stories of the Military Dependents' Village," young men and women dressed in the styles of those years wove through the scene, performing replica dances from that era. The debut Hsinchu veterans statue street theater, the in-depth Military Dependents' Village Flavor Expert Lecture Hall, the Military Dependents' Village Flavor Market where tradition and innovation coexist, and a special exhibition documenting the laughter and tears of Hsinchu's military dependents' villages made it like a youthful feast of military dependents' village culture unfolding on Christmas Eve in front of the Black Bat Squadron Heritage Hall. The rich content drew a packed crowd.

Mayor Lin Chih-chien stated that Hsinchu City has a rich living landscape of military dependents' village settlements, and its high proportion of military dependents' village residents is our shared memory and an important cultural asset of this city. Since taking office, he has actively sought central government subsidies to build the "General Village Open Library and Information Park." Phase one of General Village opened at the end of June this year (the 108th year of the Republic of China), and funding of 178 million yuan has also been secured from the Ministry of Culture for phase two. At the same time, a plan to preserve and revitalize the Japanese Navy's Sixth Fuel Factory, a military site, has been launched. The Sixth Fuel Factory was an important military dependents' village settlement after the war. The plan will reconstruct the historical scene. The Japanese Navy Sixth Fuel Factory insulation base has been completed, and six simple dormitories have also been restored, with guided tours, retro markets, open-air movies, and other activities provided, successfully revitalizing the historical scene and preserving Hsinchu City's unique military dependents' village culture.

The Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau stated that this year's Military Dependents' Village Cultural Festival takes "Youth Stories in the Military Dependents' Village" as its main thread, calling on friends old and young inside and outside the bamboo fences to reminisce and sparking motivation and interest in military dependents' village culture among the general younger generation. The activities are diverse and rich, including the "Military Dependents' Village Youth Show," the "Hsinchu Military Dependents' Village Youth Laughter and Tears Special Exhibition," the "Military Dependents' Village Flavor Expert Lecture Hall," and the "Military Dependents' Village Flavor Market." Distinctive military dependents' village delicacies were also provided on site for the public to taste, collectively recalling the youthful feast of the military dependents' villages.
