How to deal with frost damage to flowers and nursery stock? A detailed guide to prevention and control methods
1. For seedlings being grown, potted flowers, and some Lunar New Year flowers, rare flowers and landscaping nursery stock, any that can be moved into a greenhouse should be protected there, with the greenhouse film promptly covered to prevent the intrusion of cold air.
2. In view of the current weather, attention should be paid to timely heating and supplementary lighting. For warm-loving flowers and nursery stock native to the tropics and subtropics, the temperature should be maintained above 12°C; other flowers and nursery stock should be kept at around 8°C, with a minimum no lower than 5°C, and supplementary lighting should be provided in good time, with light intensity maintained at around 20,000 lux, while controlling the lighting duration according to growth characteristics.
3. Promptly clear snow and frost from the greenhouse roof, reinforce the supports, and prevent the greenhouse from collapsing.
4. Where there are no conditions for moving plants into a greenhouse, promptly cover them with plastic film, rice straw, rice husks, etc. to keep them warm.
5. Field management should be strengthened, with timely ditching and drainage.
6. Promptly remove ice and frost from the plants (by gently shaking them or lightly tapping with a soft bamboo tip to knock it off, but do not whip the branches and leaves), and carry out hilling and earthing up around the roots.
