Yilan has abundant underground springs, and rainwater from the Xueshan Range and the Central Mountain Range converges and flows into the Lanyang River, giving the Lanyang Plain rich water resources. Yuanshan Township, nestled among the mountains and at the source of the water, is especially a treasure trove of water. Springs flow through the township, forming clear channels and ponds of various sizes that irrigate farmland and nurture local industries tied to water. From early eel farming to the transition to aquatic plant cultivation, the story of the Xu family of Shengyang Aquatic Plants is a beautiful chapter in Yilan's transformation.
