A spectacular challenge? New Taipei Christmas Surplus Food Sharing Festival, witness the moment of miracle!

To promote the concept of "food conservation," the Agriculture Department of New Taipei City will hold the "2019 Christmas Surplus Food Sharing Festival" on December 14 and 15 from 2 PM to 6 PM at the Station Front Plaza in Banqiao District, New Taipei City. This year, in addition to upholding the spirit of previous Surplus Food Sharing Festivals with communal cooking and sharing and cherishing food, inviting the public to make delicious thick soup together, surplus food talks and a surplus food cuisine food area, students from the culinary departments of 3 schools, including Zhuangjing Vocational High School, Shuren Home Economics and Commercial Vocational High School, and Donghai High School, are also invited to serve as the event's "Fruit Art Creative Professionals," performing fruit carving LIVE shows on the event day and leading the public on-site on how to do simple fruit and vegetable carving. This event also opens on-site voting for the public's favorite works and classic snack recommendations and various other activities. Members of the public who participate in the event will have the chance to receive exquisite gifts!

New Taipei City Agriculture Department Director Li Wen stated that "off-grade produce" refers to agricultural products outside of "standard specifications." Because of their poor appearance, they are more labor-intensive to handle and less accepted by the market, and are often eliminated at the first stage of the production and sales process. But in fact, their quality and nutrition are the same as other fruits and vegetables. To avoid food waste, the Christmas Surplus Food Sharing Festival is held every year, hoping the public can experience the true meaning of cherishing and sharing at Christmas. This year's event is themed "Ugly Fruits and Vegetables Make a Big Comeback, Fruit Art Creative Professionals," hoping that through interaction with the "professionals," the public can change their stereotype of off-grade fruits and vegetables and understand that off-grade fruits and vegetables, as long as they are handled skillfully, can easily become delicacies on every family's plate. In addition, this year's 3 teams of professionals will give our off-grade fruits and vegetables a spectacular makeover.
