Taitung Slow Food Festival - 12/7, 12/8 Reunion Table, Gathering Over Food at Year's End

At the end of the year, the last Slow Food Festival of this year will be held on December 7 (Saturday) and 8 (Sunday) at the Tiehua New Settlement in downtown Taitung, with the theme "Reunion Table" bringing everyone together. In addition to 37 slow food vendors thoughtfully bringing family signature dishes and celebration cuisine, there will be two "Slow Food Workshop" activities on site, letting everyone roll up their sleeves and cook together at this time of reunion. In addition, on December 5, Chef Masayuki Okuda from Yamagata Prefecture, Japan, a chef who drives local revitalization with local ingredients, is invited to Taitung, and will co-host a special lecture with Chef Yang Po-wei of Sinasera 24. A Taiwan-Japan collaboration, the year's greatest local culinary power, not to be missed! Magistrate Rao Ching-ling welcomes county residents and visitors to seize the opportunity, and once again kindly reminds everyone to respond to the spirit of environmental protection by remembering to bring eco-friendly tableware to the Slow Food Festival.

The Taitung County Department of Transportation and Tourism Development stated that among Taitung's mountains and seas live diverse ethnic groups including Minnan, Hakka, Amis, Bunun, Rukai, Paiwan, Puyuma, and Tao, as well as many migrants who have moved to Taitung from within Taiwan and abroad. Therefore, regarding reunion dishes and the reunion season, Taitung has rich and diverse culinary traditions, as well as deep connections to the land. Among them, the Paiwan people of the Tuban tribe in Daren Township hold their most important annual reunion moment in the Masuvaqu millet harvest festival after the summer millet harvest; and each generation of people who have migrated to Taitung from afar remembers the taste of reunion during the New Year festivals, from father's Tainan-style salty-sweet cake, grandmother's braised cabbage, Japan's ozoni rice cake soup for New Year, to southern German spaetzle, all with the richest and most moving food stories.

The nostalgia and abundant flavors of reunion moments will be relived together at this year-end "Taitung Slow Food Festival - Reunion Table" on December 7 and 8, tasting and sharing the joy of gathering together. In addition, the two "Slow Food Workshop" activities at the Slow Food Festival site: on December 7, the Vuvu of the Tuban tribe will lead everyone in making taro dumplings rinumul; on December 8, Taitung local writer and Chairman Liu Hsiang-chun of the Origin Table Association will make family New Year dumplings full of spring flavors with everyone. Early registration is welcome.
