Taro You Smile Hsinchu County Taro Industry Revitalization Event

If you love taro, you're in luck! The annual Taro Festival grandly kicked off on November 24 at Zhenai Park. On the day of the event, there were taro tamagoyaki DIY, taro bread DIY and taro-related product sales; in addition to taro-related products, the event site also featured sales of smallholder products from within the community, adding to the diversity of the event and allowing the public to experience and learn how taro products are made. For those unable to take part in the DIY activities, finished products were also available on site, giving more visitors the chance to purchase and taste taro.

Hsinchu County - stated that Hukou Township is the township with the largest taro planting area in Hsinchu County, accounting for about one third of the county's total. Among them, Desheng Village is one of the areas within the township with excellent quality. Unfortunately, due to a gap in the passing down of planting techniques, the industry declined. Through the Rural Regeneration Plan, Desheng Community, together with the neighboring Hexing Village and local available resources, and with joint guidance and assistance, began small-scale annual revival of the taro industry. The main variety planted in Desheng Village is Betel Nut Heart Taro. Through resumed cultivation and training in related courses, Desheng has tried to create processed products from taro, showcasing the diversity and richness of taro. This event presents and displays the results of taro processing. It is hoped that through learning and effort, the community can advance the taro industry from a single item of primary agricultural products to the diversity of secondary processing, enabling the taro industry to show its versatility and potential and promoting the revival of the village's taro industry.
