Early-autumn cabbage enters the North American Chinese market, Singapore has strong export potential, and vacuum precooling keeps cabbage fresher
Since August this year, domestic cabbage plantings registered have reached more than 7 million plants, already exceeding the warning threshold. Since coming to market in October, the wholesale price has fallen to 15 yuan per kilogram, down 40% from the same period last year. In November, as the peak production season begins, although cooler weather has raised demand, the wholesale price is still hovering around 16 yuan per kilogram.
To absorb the surge in cabbage, the Agriculture and Food Agency and the major production area of Yunlin County have taken a multi-pronged approach. In addition to persuading farmers to reduce planting and partnering with PX Mart to feature cabbage in hot pot ingredients, they are also actively expanding overseas markets. Through vacuum precooling equipment, they are solving the problems of yellowing leaves and rotten cores encountered in long-distance transport, extending storage and transport life, and improving export quality. The Agriculture and Food Agency estimates that exports from November this year to April next year can reach 500-1000 metric tons. Today (the 14th), the first batch of 14 tons of "Early Autumn" cabbage has been loaded into containers and set sail, bound for the Chinese market in Canada.
