Where can I find seedlings of Taiwan's new strawberry variety Lianxiang? Comparing its sweetness with Satsuma Otome strawberries
The Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station under the Council of Agriculture today unveiled "Lianxiang," a strawberry bred over 6 years, whose sweetness rivals the Japanese strawberry "Satsuma Otome," reaching up to 16 degrees Brix or more, with better propagation success rates and plant health, to be technology-transferred and produced after April. Currently, seedlings of this variety are available only in Taiwan, and these strawberry seedlings are not yet on the market.
The Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station today held a press conference titled "The Chanel of the strawberry world, 'Miaoli No. 1 - Lianxiang,' a new variety is born."Lu Meijun, head of the Biological Control Branch of the Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, said strawberries are rich in vitamin C, highly nutritious, and enjoy the reputation of "queen of fruits"; the first new variety bred by the Miaoli District Agricultural Research and Extension Station over 6 years, "Miaoli No. 1 - Lianxiang," has many advantages.
She said these include bearing fruit on a single stalk, making harvesting convenient and saving labor, and the plant has an upright appearance, allowing good ventilation and easy management; when seedlings are raised under high summer temperatures, the plants are also less prone to weakening, and the runner seedling propagation rate (propagation success rate) is 1.4 times that of "Toyonoka," the variety most people currently grow.
⟦NL> She also said that at peak production, the Brix of "Lianxiang" can reach up to 16 degrees or more, rivaling the level of 15 degrees or more of the Japanese strawberry Satsuma Otome; plant variety rights were approved in March this year, and technology transfer and production are expected to open after April.
