How to grow beautiful southern flowers in the north

In our country, due to regional differences, southern flowers are often difficult to grow well in the north. In fact, as long as you learn more about the habits of southern flowers and create a suitable environment for them based on the climate and environment of southern cities, southern flowers can also thrive in the north.

1. Increase air humidity. Because air humidity in the north is low, most southern flowers cannot adapt to dry air, so increasing air humidity is very important. According to measurements by relevant departments, during cultivation in the Beijing area, in addition to reasonable watering, measures to increase water spraying are also needed. During the dry season with little rain and during the hot summer flower-growing period, water should often be sprinkled on the leaves and ground to increase air humidity. This measure can effectively prevent phenomena such as dry tips on young leaves or scorched leaf edges. For a few precious flowers, in winter a plastic film cover should also be put on, which can keep them warm, retain moisture, and prevent dust, keeping the plants clean and fresh.

2. Improve the pH of soil and water. Northern soil tends to be alkaline, while southern soil tends to be acidic. Carefully prepare a loose, fertile, slightly acidic growing soil suitable for the growth of southern flowers, and choose soft water containing less salt. At the same time, during the flower growth period, often apply alum fertilizer water and the like to make the potting soil acidic. This is an important part of growing southern flowers well.

3. Pay attention to appropriate shading in summer. In most northern regions, the sunlight intensity in summer is high. If southern flowers are maintained in direct strong light at this time, it is very easy to cause sunscald. Therefore, after summer begins, different shading should be provided or the flowerpot positions should be changed according to the light preference of the flowers, avoiding direct strong sunlight, so that they can grow robustly. In summer, reeds or bamboo blinds can be used to build a shade shed, with a light transmission rate of 30%-50%, which can improve light intensity and benefit the growth of southern flowers.

4. Pay attention to heat preservation and cold protection in winter. In most northern regions, by early to mid-October, potted flowers need to be moved into a greenhouse for maintenance one after another. After being brought indoors, they should be placed in different positions according to the different requirements of different types of flowers for light and temperature. Generally, the minimum winter temperature for flowers needs to be kept above 10°C.
