Yunlin County Government Invests Over 1 Million Yuan to Improve the Simple Pumping Station in Shuipu Community, Beigang Township

Shuipu Community in Beigang Township frequently floods due to its low-lying terrain. Although a simple pumping station is located there, water often cannot be discharged when the water level of the Beigang River rises, causing flooding. Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-shan visited the site on the 5th for an inspection and stated that the county government will install 2 new cross-levee drainage pipelines beside the pumping station to improve its drainage efficiency. The project is expected to be completed after the Lunar New Year next year, safeguarding residents' lives and property.

Shuipu Community in Beigang is located in a low-lying area near the Beigang River. Whenever typhoons or heavy rain occur, the water level outside the levee rises and drainage becomes difficult, often causing flooding. After local residents reported the issue, the Yunlin County Government, together with County Councilor Tsai Yueh-ju, Shuipu Village Chief Kao Jung-ching of Beigang Township, and Fu-chao Village Chief Yao Shui-ping, conducted an on-site inspection of the Beigang River high floodplain in March of Year 108 (2019) and actively carried out relevant engineering design work. Multiple local briefings were also held to gather local opinions, which were incorporated into the planning and design.

Magistrate Chang Li-shan stated that in response to the long-standing flooding problem in Shuipu Community, the county government has continuously sought ways to improve the situation. The existing simple pumping station uses gravity drainage, and when the water level of the Beigang River rises, water often cannot be discharged. To solve this problem, the county government has self-funded over 1 million yuan to install cross-levee drainage pipelines, using pump motors to discharge water directly into the Beigang River. It is hoped that through this dual approach, the flooding issue can be effectively resolved and the safety of residents ensured.
