Locally Sourced Handmade Pizza Fills the Campus with Aroma: Miaoli Promotes "Eat in Season, Eat Local"
Miaoli is a county built on agriculture, and its 18 townships and cities each have abundant agricultural specialties. Since the 108th academic year, the county has selected 17 remote-area schools to promote the "Locally Sourced Creative Cuisine Cooking Experience Course," letting students gain a further understanding of the agricultural resources and dietary culture features of each area. On the 30th, County Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang went to Nanhe Elementary School in Gongguan Township, attended this course, and joined more than 40 teachers and students from the whole school, adults and children hand in hand, to make Hakka kiln-baked pizza, experiencing the flavors of foreign cuisine. The aroma of the food filled the campus, and in a joyful atmosphere, the concept of "eat in season, eat local" took root.
Yeh Hsin-hui, deputy director of the Miaoli County Education Department, said that the "Locally Sourced Creative Cuisine Cooking Experience Course" plan promoted in the 108th academic year was scheduled to hold 17 sessions in total. Near noon on the 30th, County Magistrate Hsu Yao-chang, accompanied by Education Department Deputy Director Yeh Hsin-hui and others, attended the experience course at Gongguan Nanhe Elementary School to gain a firsthand understanding of how the new plan was being carried out. Together with the teachers and students led by Principal Wang Shih-wen, he used local fresh ingredients to make red date fruit salad and cook creative vegetable dishes to add dishes for the teachers and students, and also made Hakka-style kiln-baked pizza with adults and children hand in hand.
