What are the precautions for keeping cut flowers in water in a vase?

When keeping cut flowers in water in a vase, note the following: (1) Soak the cuttings to root them. Cuttings should be 8-12 cm long and contain 3-4 stem nodes, and the cut end of the cutting should be smooth and slanted.
(2) Change the clean water once every 2 days; at 20-30°C, roots will form in half a month. During rooting, it is best to cover the cuttings with a plastic bag to maintain humidity, and place them in a semi-shaded spot indoors. After rooting, do not change the water, to avoid damaging the roots; when the water runs low, top it up promptly.
(3) If the vase is too large, the roots will be relatively thin and weak.
(4) During the growing season, apply a small dose of foliage-plant fertilizer once every half month, which can promote robust plant growth.
(5) Flowers kept in water in a vase are best not placed in direct sunlight.
