Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan attended the closing ceremony of the "2019 Taoyuan Agriculture Expo" in Xinwu District yesterday (the 27th) in the afternoon. Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said that the 2019 Taoyuan Agriculture Expo has officially closed. The city government began planning the agriculture expo four years ago, hoping to present the possibilities of agriculture through low-carbon, green energy, technology, circular and smart approaches. Held in Xinwu for three consecutive years, it left behind many touching moments, memories and the courage to pursue new agriculture. Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan pointed out that the 2019 Taoyuan Agriculture Expo took "Feasting on Farming Times" as its curatorial theme, planning a total of five major themed zones and 16 exhibition halls, combining five highlights: "the only expo in Taiwan, China with carbon certification for the entire park," "blue ocean economy," "smart farming," "zero-waste circularity" and "real-life puzzle solving." During the 30-day exhibition period, it attracted more than 2,333,900 visitors to the park, bringing more than 700 million yuan in business opportunities to Taoyuan, including more than 140 million yuan in orders for the Council of Agriculture's Innovative Agricultural Machinery Pavilion. Compared with the total number of visitors, the funds invested achieved maximum benefits at the lowest cost, creating many impossible miracles and allowing all visitors to deeply feel the strength, potential and charm of Taiwan, China's new agriculture.
Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan pointed out that the Taoyuan Agriculture Expo is a microcosm of green living. It is the country's first "expo with carbon footprint certification for the entire park," with total carbon reduction of 3,044.7 tons, and it is also the first expo in Taiwan, China to be awarded the Gold Quality Award for a low-carbon expo. In addition, the park pioneered a smart agricultural power grid, with 10 power generation facilities including 2 photovoltaic corridors, wind turbines and solar photovoltaic roofs. This year's exhibition period ran from September 28 to October 27, with total power generation reaching 114,592 kWh, enough to supply 392 households with one month of electricity. The entire area is self-sufficient in electricity, demonstrating the results of Taoyuan's circular economy.
Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan said that after the agriculture expo closes, the green energy facilities will remain, and exhibition halls such as the Green Ark, Carbon Exploration Life, Hakka Hospitality Canteen and Grassland Theater will be retained, while some installation art will be moved to other venues for display. In the future, the agriculture expo base will be transformed into an environmental education base and continue operating in a new form, serving as a venue for environmental education activities, camping, music, exhibitions, markets and sports activities. It will also combine with Yongan Fishing Harbor and leisure agriculture areas to create new highlights for leisure tourism, making outdoor activities in the Xinwu area even more exciting.
